Community in Khwai
Local Guides and Staff from Khwai
Around 400 people inhabit the Khwai Village near Moremi Game Reserve. The tourism industry is vital for this community and provides a lot of workplaces. Thus we do our best to employ as many staff members directly from the local communities as possible also to educate and to show the benefits of tourism. In our mind it is necessary to educate both the local communities and our guests about different cultures, nature conservation and way of living. Therefore we offer village tours in order to give an authentic insight of the local culture to our guests and to form an interchange between tourists and locals of Khwai.
The people of Khwai Village have been part of the area long before tourism took place. In our mind it is crucial to maintain the area in its natural way and like the community is used to. We try to produce minimum waste and lower plastic use in our Lodge in Khwai. Furthermore power is created using solar panels and sewage is cleared by septic tanks.
COVID-19 UPDATE
Due to the Covid-19 virus tourism in Botswana and Khawi has already been on hold for a long time. Consequently this has a big impact onto the local community as well as the whole tourism industry in Botswana. Thus we decided to implement short time work before the Botswana government came to help. We are also supporting the local people by handing out food and other necessary equipment including masks and disinfectants.
